I find that the best performance comes from cards that support Xvideo
extnensions. My Voodoo 3 card using the SDL output (No Xvideo support in Xfree
as of yet for this card.) can't hold a candle to my ATI Rage 128 Mobility on
my thinkpad a22m. Video performance rivals that of commercial Windows players.
I would most certainly  try The rage 128 card, and make sure Xvideo extensions
are enabled in your XFree config file. Best of luck.
