   Uh, what does ./configure say at the "checking for gcc..." and
the "checking if $CC accepts -finline-limit..." lines when running
"CC=gcc-2.95.3 ./configure" ?

   Ok, that's my fault. To build vlc and its plugins, "make vlc" is not
enough, you need to run "make vlc plugins".
