Slackware 8 problems

Does ( make vlc plugins ) actually work ? Im just really stumped that im running
slack 8 on this laptop and slack 8 on my desktop at home and my laptop was a cake
walk ( runs killer ! ) and home i get all kinds of problems, i figured it would be
the other way around :)
