VLC Late sound

Are you using the old free OSS, or the up to date one that costs around 
$20? I have the latter, and it sounds as if one of the settings is 
wrong, eg. bytes reversed, 8 bits instead of 16 or something like that.
What set-up did you use?

I have had the same problems with several different kernels and using 
several different versions of vlc.
