It's because the specfile vlc.spec is not well written. The variables are not
separate by { }. By exemple : "lib%name%libmajor" should be written
"lib%{name}%{libmajor} and "%libname-devel" "%{libname}-devel" and without
space between the print.

You should run "rpm -ivh vlc-0.5.0-4mdk.src.rpm" because the specfile in the
package can't be modified (or i don't know how to do it).
Go to /usr/src/RPM/SPECS and run "rpm -bb vlc.spec" and then the compilation
will run. But the program will written these 2 files:
/var/tmp/vlc-0.5.0-1mdk-root/usr/bin/i586-mandrake-linux-gnu-vlc and
/var/tmp/vlc-0.5.0-1mdk-root/usr/bin/i586-mandrake-linux-gnu-vlc-config
But it will search after /var/tmp/vlc-0.5.0-1mdk-root/usr/bin/vlc and
/var/tmp/vlc-0.5.0-1mdk-root/usr/bin/vlc-config. So i've created two links to
vlc and vlc-config and renamed the /var/tmp/vlc folder. After all these i
rerun the command rpm -bb. When the compilation is finished, i 've moved the
2 files i586-mandrake-linux-gnu-vlc and i586-mandrake-linux-gnu-vlc-config in
/usr/bin/.
I have the same problem with 2 others files in
/var/tmp/vlc-0.5.0-1mdk-root/usr/lib/mux and
/var/tmp/vlc-0.5.0-1mdk-root/usr/lib/demux with the DVB input plugins (for
the satellite streaming, if i well understand). So i've commented it in the
specfile.
Another problem now: VLC don't run well. I have no sound and the crop is more
and more large.
