[vlc] Video surveillance avec videolan

hi,

i am a newbie. I am a french veterinairan and i am looking for a 
software to make video surveillance.
I have network and would like to use webcams to keep an eye on my dog 
and cat.

do you think i could use videolan for that stuff ?
