What does the applet say?
Using Linux do you connect to the same multicastgroup?

But these applications DO NOT use MULTICAST - please run the testapplet 
to make sure your network is multicast-enabled. As far as I know MS 
Windows works fine with multicast so it's got nothing to do with your 
NIC. It seems to me to be either a firewall (see the other comments in 
your mail) or your link is not multicast enabled.
