[vlc] playing vcd on wind98se help

hello

playing vcd on os x using vlc is as easy as selecting 'open disc' and click 
the play button.

the same steps just wouldn't work for the windows player.

I have to select 'open file' and browse to the 'filename.dat' in order for 
it to work. Is this the behaviour of the window player?

anybody successful in just the 'open disc' and still able to play vcd on 
win98?
