[vlc] transcoding from file to file

I've tried the following:

vlc original.mpg --sout
'#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,acodec=mpga,vb=200,width=320,height=200,ab=128}:std{access=file,mux=ps,url=newfile.mpg}'

I get a file "std{access=file,mux=ps,url=newfile.mpg}" that is a bit
larger than the original. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
