[vlc] Does VLC work without internal DVD Drive in iMac ?

I installl VLC on my IMac G3 - 384Mo Ram,
système : MAC OS X 10.3 - external DVD Drive Lacie.
I open it without difficulties.

On my iMac I hav'nt internal DVD Drive.

Can I read DVD movies without internal DVD Drive but just with
VLC and an external DVD drive?
