[vlc] Scrambled video, and no audio capture device found

Hi there. WinXP Pro with SP2, ATI TV-Wonder PCI card here on a Compaq
Deskpro EN with built-in audio. Started from scratch by doing a
complete rebuild of the box, and after installing VLC, my video via
Direct Show is quite wonky (like snowy or scrambled) and I can't
select ANY audio input device (previously, it would indicate the
Integrated Audio).
WinXP SP2 appears to be the culprit for the audio input device
not being selectable any more (it was there before I installed SP2),
but I dunno what's up with the scrambled video.
Currently using VLC 0.7.2 (due to the BSOD issue with 0.8.2 which
I have yet to figure out....setting the dshow-size didn't seem to
help) via wxWindows interface. Any ideas/advice would be appreciated.
PS. Are there ways to enabled debugging/logging on the Windows
versions? I've tried the "--logfile full/path/here --logmode text"
flags from the cmd line, but with no success.
