[vlc] VLC Problem with subtitles

OS: Windows XP SP 2 Version 2002
VLC: 0.8.6c
Hardware:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
1GB RAM
DVD: _NEC DVD_RW ND 3500AG
GeForce 6200 TurboCache
Realtek AC'97 Audio (on board)

On each of the 3 Discs of the Limited Edition of the german release of Pan's Labyrinth the subtitle isn't showing, it works fine in Windows MediaPlayer Classic and Nero Showtime, just not in VLC. I tried the dvd-menu and the player menu to select the subtitles, neither worked
It never happened with any kind of movie before (from usa, uk, germany)
