[vlc] Cannot play .mov files

running OS X 10.5.3. macpro 10GB RAM. never had any issue with vlc  
before. just upgraded to i.
i believe VLC stopped playing .mov files after i installed ffmpeg and  
it's components. i tried the forum, yet no one responded. i even  
reinstalled quicktime 7.5 for kicks. nothing.

i get this error:
main: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `2vuy'. VLC probably does  
not support this sound or video format.

the same version of vlc worked fine on other machines running the same  
system config.

any help is appreciated.
