[vlc] x264 in VLC Media Player

Hi,
 
I'm currently doing my university's final year project on VLC Media Player. Could someone please tell where I can find some documents on the x264 of VLC as my professor asked me to do some coding on the H.264 codec. Is it possible for me to add JM into the codec or replace x264 code with the JM? I'm pretty new on VLC, please kindly give me some advices. Thanks so much!
