[vlc] vlc player broke my other programs

hello 
can someone please help me
after downloading vlc media player
i can no longer see subtitles on my other video playing programs
i've tried uninstalling and installing 
i've tested the files their subtiltes cant be seen on computers that have had or have vlc 
and i am not the only one with this problem
please reply to this so i can figure out how to fix this problem
i do not like my other  programs affected by vlc
