The santa hat over the VLC cone is not a virus. It was already inside
VLC when you downloaded it and is just triggered by the date. It is not
related at all with DVD support.

This is not a Christian reference.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Claus and "Christians say the
Santa tradition detracts from the religious origins and purpose of
Christmas."

VideoLAN is NOT a COMPAGNY. VLC media player is not a product. It is a
software mostly written by developers during their free time. None of
them are paid for that. They are doing it because they find fun to
contribute to this project. So, if they find fun to had a hat to their
icon for a given period, it is not a minority of complaining users which
will prevent them for doing it.
If you can't bear it, here are some solutions for you :
- Use an other media player. There are plenty of other choices surely
made by non "idiot" developers.
- Compile or ask someone to compile your own VLC without the santa hat.
- Change the date of your computer.

Regards,
