[vlc] VLC Player Problems

Hello,

I tried looking on the VideoLAN website to find an answer to this, but had
no success. Can you please help me?

I have been using VLC frequently the past few months in order to listen to
WMA files -- interviews that I record for my reporting work. I start and
stop the files a lot, and I speed them up sometimes, in order to transcribe
them.

The past month I have been getting a lot of glitching -- mostly in the form
of static-like bleeps or pops. Every once in a while the sound will pop
horribly. I had to stop wearing headphones, because I was afraid my ears
might get damaged. Many times this would be accompanied by VLC player
crashing. Still, I kept using VLC because it is otherwise a very good media
player for transcribing because I can speed up or slow down.

Thank goodness I stopped wearing headphones, though , because, today I was
listening to a file and sped it up (just one click) and after a few
seconds, there was a horrible bleep and pop, and the player stopped, but
did not crash. When I tried to play again, it made no noise at all. In
fact, when I tried iTunes, it didn't work either, because my speakers had
been blown out. Thankfully, restarting my computer restored my volume.
However, and I have only ever had this problem with the VLC player -- not
with any other media player -- I have decided I must refrain from using VLC
until I can be assured that this will not happen again. (My ears are
ringing, and I'm so thankful my computer is okay.)

This happened back when I had the older version of VLC, but it's happening
still with the newer version of VLC (1.1.0) which I downloaded two days
ago, hoping that the problems would be fixed. Today, it was particularly
bad; bad enough that I was very concerned.

Please, if you can assist me, I would greatly appreciate your help. VLC is
a great media player. However, I am currently very worried about using it,
and will until I know of a fix, switch to another media player.

Thank you! I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Sarah Evert
