Hello Mark Duplessis...and anyone else who uses Leopard or Snow Leopard,

I just wanted to provide a quick update to my previous message.

Just in case I made a typo in my previous message, I meant to say that I was currently using 1.1.0-rc2, and NOT 1.0.0-rc2. I am not sure what I wrote, because I no longer have access to that message.

Anyway, I just used the "git pull --rebase" to update my "vlc" directory to the latest source. It takes about 15 minutes to compile on my 27" iMac.

I am happy to announce that it is now compiling 1.1.0-rc3 without a problem.

Also, the code that is currently found at . . .

http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/testing/

. . . WILL NOT compile on my iMac, as it is not recognized as a git repository. Someone will probably add an rc3 DMG to that directory soon, if you want to wait until then. Otherwise, you may wish to compile the code yourself, as I have done, using the git command. Of course, to do that, you need to have Apple's Developer Tools installed, as well as git, which you can freely download from the Internet.

If you do compile yourself, it is always a good idea to make a backup copy of your "vlc" directory immediately after downloading the source for the first time, and also whenever you use the "git pull --rebase" command. That way you can quickly recover, and not waste time having to download the source again, should something go wrong while you are compiling.

As I said, on a fast iMac with a fast broadband connection, the compilation process will take 15-30 minutes at best.
