VLC media player is a media player and streaming server. Therefore, it is absolutely no DVD ripping application. The options you mentioned are provide playback and streaming facilities for video cameras, TV cards, etc.

Take a look at Handbrake or a similar DVD ripping application if you want to do so. Note that these applications may be illegal depending on your legislation.
