Well I must admit - by the sounds of things your MMX implementations are
making big differences. I would love to make the most out of Dual Core /
Dual Processor Altivec G5's - I just think/fear that since Apple have gone
Intel - people aren't going to bother trying to keep the Altivec ball
rolling.

There are open sourced Altivec libraries being produced which are meant to
improve code because it's all hand-written - but this is assuming x264 uses
these libraries.

At this point I'm just researching into the background - I have a degree to
write up for the 31st and exams in May - but I want better performance from
x264 on my Dual Processor Mac - and I want to help make it quicker.

On my Dual G5 I'm currently seeing 10-13 FPS on 1Mbps for DVD resolution on
Eric Petit's Handbrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/) application - so im not
exactly sure what the specifics are in terms of codec parameters - id need
to look that up one day....
