[libbluray-devel] Testing "8-bit Memoirs" with VLC

Hello devs,

So my Blu-ray project "8-bit Memoirs" is (finally) going into betatest
in a few days. It's a Blu-ray diskmag-like eBook that I've spent the
past 5 years creating. I regard it as a scene project that will be
available for free. More info at www.8bitMemoirs.com

It runs on all hardware blu-ray players I've been able to get my hands on.

Since not everyone owns a blu-ray player, I've been telling people that
they can also use VLC and/or PowerDVD to view it. (I generally refer to
VLC a lot inside the project itself too, thinking VLC BD-J support would
be fully implemented by the time I reached the finish line too).

So today I've been testing a bit with VLC and PowerDVD. The results:

VLC actually plays my project better than PowerDVD. (No offense
intended, but this was a positive surprise. Well done to all!). There
are some graphical issues with PowerDVD, while VLC appears to handle it
better.

However, VLC lacks key inputs. I cannot use the number keys on the
keyboard, which is necessary in order to select a story. (Press a
3-digit number to load a story).

VLC also lacks mouse-input. Not a huge deal, but would be nice to have too.

Is there any chance you can add more button-input?

And also map keys for buttons like POPUP_MENU maybe? Or add a small
virtual remote control with essential buttons?

My project also uses NEXT and PREV buttons (to change background music),
but VLC seems to override this when selecting these functions from the menu.

I'm not personally using the coloured A, B, C and D buttons, but those
would be nice to have mapped too.

I would be happy to e-mail you a stripped version (without videofiles in
order to keep filesize down) of the project, if anyone is interested? I
can also snailmail a 32 gb USB stick with the whole Blu-ray folder
structure of the betatest version, if anyone want?

Thanks!

- Roald
